On 6 May 2010 in Warsaw, Tauron Polska Energia SA (TPE) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Japanese company Chugoku Electric Power Co. Under this MOU the companies intend to cooperate for two years.
TPE and Chugoku Electric Power undertook to cooperate in the fields of coal-fired power generation, nuclear power generation, and renewable energy sources. The cooperation will consist in exchange of information concerning technological solutions and possible financing or co-financing of selected investments.
Stanisław Tokarski, Vice-President of Tauron's Board of Directors, Strategy and Development Director said: "Our company is very interested in the fields listed in the MOU. We started cooperation with Chugoku Electric Power Co. in April last year. Since then we have exchanged information concerning such matters as efficiency increase for coal-fired thermal power stations, promotion of nuclear power generation, generation of energy from renewable energy sources, and CO2 emission credits. The document that we have signed today clarifies the scope of cooperation".
In the area of coal-fired energy generation companies plan to exchange information concerning CO2 capture, transport and storage, coal gasification technologies (IGCC) and biomass utilisation. As for renewable energy sources, the companies plan to focus on such matters as joint investments in hydro power plants, wind farm, biomass and photovoltaic power.
