Concentration of renewable sources of energy in TAURON Ekoenergia

Since October, TAURON Ekoenergia has been managing all the hydro-electric power plants owned by the TAURON Group. On 1 October, District Court in Wroclaw registered the increase of the share capital of TAURON Ekoenergia and thus division of Enion Energia. Share capital of TAURON Ekoenergia was increased from PLN 200,264,000 by PLN 255,806,000 to PLN 456,070,000 by means of establishment of 255,806 shares of the nominal value of PLN 1 thousand each, acquired in full by TAURON Polska Energia.
 
The Tauron Group operates 35 hydro-electric power plants located in the Dolnośląskie, Opolskie and Małopolskie Voivodeships. Until today, 29 were owned by TAURON Ekoenergia and 6 were owned by Enion Energia. As a result of the changes, since October TAURON Ekoenergia has been operating all the hydro-electric power plants owned by the Group.
- Concentrating all the Group’s hydro-electric power plants within TAURON Ekoenergia is an activity provided for in our corporate strategy which stipulates implementation of a new business model based on the operation of the main business areas, inclusive of renewable sources of energy, says Dariusz Stolarczyk, Vice-President of the Management Board of TAURON Polska Energia, Chief Communications and Management Officer. - Since 2008, we have been consequently re-ordering the structure of the holding and integrating the activity, which enables us to improve performance. Concentration of assets related to renewable sources of energy within one company will also facilitate investments in this area as well as its development.
The primary activity conducted by the TAURON Group within the area of renewable sources of energy is generation of electricity from renewable sources of energy at hydro-electric power plants as well as management of the Group’s projects with respect to generation of power from other renewable sources of energy. Within the area of renewable sources of energy, there operate 35 hydro-electric power plants of the available output of 131.2 MW. In the years 2007, 2008 and 2009, hydro-electric power plants owned by the TAURON Group generated 0.4 TWh of net electricity annually. The main objective for the area of renewable sources of energy is the development of new capacities in the renewable sources of energy-based power engineering, in particular in wind power generation, at the level of 440 MW by 2020. Planned capital expenditures for this purpose will in the years 2010-2012 amount to approx. PLN 1.1 billion, while in the years 2013-2020 – approx. PLN 2.8 billion.
