Kompania Węglowa and Tauron’s generation companies signed on 1 December 2010 in Katowice three-year agreements for sale of steam coal. During the term of the agreements the companies: Południowy Koncern Energetyczny, Elektrociepłownia EC Nowa, Elektrociepłownia Tychy and Energetyka Cieszyńska will purchase PLN 2.4 billion worth of coal from the largest producer of steam coal in the European Union. The parties assumed changes in the price of coal in line with the price fluctuation scheme defined in the agreements.
During signing the agreements Mr. Dariusz Lubera, the President of the Management Board of Tauron Polska Energia said: “It is our priority to secure fuel supply. Kompania Węglowa is our trusted partner and the largest coal supplier, apart from the mining company from our Group, i.e. Południowy Koncern Węglowy. The signed agreements take into account the expectations of the parties and the specifics of our operation. We need each other, and we have to rely on each other for better or worse. That is how it is going to be like for a long time. The signed agreements confirm our good business cooperation that, in my opinion, is satisfactory for both, Kompania Węglowa and companies from the Tauron Group.”
For Kompania Węglowa the agreements were signed by Vice-Presidents of the Management Board, Mr. Zbigniew Paprotny and Mr. Jacek Korski. Mr. Jacek Korski said: “Thanks to the signed agreements we may now develop our investment plans taking into account a long-term perspective. Long-term contracts with the Tauron Group are also a proof of trust and business reliability of our company.”
Mr. Zbigniew Paprotny expressed his thanks for cooperation on drafting the agreements. As a member of the Management Board he is in charge of the commercial division at Kompania Węglowa. He said: “It was a long work that took several weeks and has lead to signing agreements that meet the expectations of the seller and the buyer. Thanks to that we can now rest assured everything went well and await the New Year’s Eve and the days and weeks that will follow with a peace of mind.”
