Eco investment in Jaworzno reaches its halfway point

TAURON Group is implementing its corporate strategy as regards the construction of new capacities. On June 2nd, in Jaworzno III Power Plant, belonging to Południowy Koncern Energetyczny from TAURON Group, drum of the 50 MW biomass boiler was installed. It is a breakthrough in the investment implementation.

- The Jaworzno investment is the effect of the implementation of TAURON Group corporate strategy. The Group’s objective is growth of the production of electrical energy from biomass burning and co-burning, which will lower CO2 emissions per MWh of output. Until the end of 2020, we are planning to commission capacities based on biomass burning of 240 MW (100% biomass burning without coal), out of which new capacities will account for 150 MW, and modernization of the existing coal boilers for 90 MW, says Dariusz Lubera, President of the Management Board of TAURON Polska Energia, additionally, in the framework of the growth of the share of RES in energy production, Tauron is planning to commission capacities up to 800 MW in wind and biogas energy until the end of 2020.
- The Jaworzno investment has not only met the assumptions of the Climate Package, but it also becomes part of the EU Road Map providing for further emission reductions until 2050. We attach huge importance to the fact that the entire capacity 50 MW capacity of the unit will be generated through biomass burning, emphasizes Stanisław Tokarski, President of the Management Board of Południowy Koncern Energetyczny.
The unit will be commissioned by the end of 2012. It will consist of a very modern biomass boiler which meets ecological standards, and a complete system of storing and providing biomass. With 100% load it will burn up to 50 tons of fuel per hour, which, with the load of approx. 75-80%, will be about 360 thousand tons of biomass per year. This will be, pursuant to the Ordinance of the Minister of Economy, 80% forest biomass, and 20% agricultural biomass.
The steam from the new boiler may be used for heat generation, as the new boiler will be connected with the basic system of heating network water which exists in the power plant.
The rated output of the new boiler, in the circulating fluidised bed boiler technology, will be 201 t of steam per hour. The temperature of fresh steam at the boiler output is 510°C and pressure approx. 10 MPa.
