TAURON Group reduces emission of pollutants

Południowy Koncern Energetyczny [Southern Energy Consortium] of TAURON Group, within the execution of the strategic programme on emission abatement, has launched a project on: Construction of flue gas deNOxing plant and 200 MW power units retrofitting in Łaziska Power Plant as part of the pollutant emission reduction program. On 24 January PKE signed contract for the OP 650k boilers retrofit aiming at the NOx emission reduction in Łaziska Power Plant, with Consortium STRABAG Sp. z o.o. and STRABAG A.G.

- TAURON Group is oriented towards clean energy – reduction of emission of pollutants, construction of wind farms and development of waterpower generation. Owing to investment in new power units as well as improvement projects, we can considerably reduce the environmental impact of our power plants and  cogeneration plants – says Dariusz Lubera, President of the Board of TAURON Polska Energia.
- Reducing of CO2, SO2 and NOX emissions is one of the priorities specified in our corporate strategy of the Group for the Generation sector. Within the Group, power generation assets are currently under modernization, which allows us to extend their lifetime in view of the binding EU regulations -  says Joanna Schmid, Vice-President on strategy and development of TAURON Polska Energia.

The project objective is to equip four power units in Łaziska Power Plant (units from 9 to 12) with deNOxing installations. The investment execution results from the requirements stipulated in the Accession Treaty and the LCP Directive (2001/80/WE). Once the requirements are met, the power units will be operated beyond 2017. The public procurement procedure started in October 2009, and the choice of the contractor was based on the Public Procurement Law. The project, commenced in 2011, will be completed in 2014 and its cost will amount to over PLN 93 million.. Alongside the deNOxing installation construction modernization works will be carried out to ensure safe units operation with high availability as long as till 2027.
- A similar project is under parallel implementation for Jaworzno III power plant for six 200 MW power units installed in this power plant, adds Joanna Schmid, the Vice-President.
