On 7 October TAURON Polska Energia, as one of the shareholders, joined the SPV called Pierwiastki i Surowce Krytyczne Sp. Z o.o. (Rare Elements and Resources LTD). The newly established company will be a platform for cooperation in research on the best technologies for solar panels production.
The other signatories (SPV shareholders) are: KGHM Polska Miedź, ZGH Bolesław, and Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza. The purpose of the SPV will be to carry out design, research and development studies in the field of production and processing of rare elements as well as production and sales of innovative solar panels.
”I am convinced that this enterprise will enable the TAURON Group to develop new skills in the field of new technologies of green energy generation and to gain access to knowledge about resources necessary to produce solar panels. Positive research results will be a basis for the TAURON Group to engage in production of solar panels, which would enable us to expand our offer and enter new markets. Development of renewable energy sources is of particular importance to us because of more and more stringent EU climate policy. I would like to remind here that in line with the Group’s corporate strategy, it is our goal to have 800 MW installed capacity from RES by 2020”, said Joanna Schmid, Vice-President of the Management Board for Strategy and Development at TAURON.
The idea behind the joint project is also to verify Poland’s resources of rare elements that are the key element of photovoltaic installations, to develop and select the technology for their winning and to develop a feasibility study concerning production of solar panels.
Use of photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, in the future, would enable the TAURON Group to reduce the risk connected with the EU’s power and climate policy and would enable the development of the segment of low-power dispersed generation sources installed directly at end clients’.
