On 19 January TAURON Wytwarzanie signed agreement with the Ministry of Economy (who is the intermediary institution for the Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013 Operational Program) for subsidy for construction of biomass-fired boiler at a RES unit of Elektrownia Jaworzno III – Elektrownia II.
The agreement was signed by Mrs. Ilona Antoniszyn – Klik, Undersecretary of State, on behalf of the Ministry of Economy, and Mr. Stanisław Tokarski – President of the Management Board and Piotr Kołodziej – Vice-President of the Management Board, on behalf of TAURON Wytwarzanie.
“Investments in biomass-fired generation units are one of the strategic objectives of the TAURON Group’s Generation Segment. As part of development of a sustainable energy mix we plan to launch 240 MW new biomass-fired units by 2020. These will be special units designed to burn only biomass” said Joanna Schmid, Vice-President of the Management Board, Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer at TAURON Polska Energia.
A generation unit designed to burn only renewable fuels will consist of a state-of-the-art biomass-fired boiler designed to meet environmental standards, accessories and complete biomass storage and feeding system. At 100% load the boiler will burn up to 50 tons of biomass per hour, which at the load of approx. 75-80% will result in annual biomass consumption at the level of 360 thousand tons. The unit will burn forest biomass (up to 80%: wood particles, wood pellets) and agricultural biomass (up to 20%: rapeseed pellets, rapeseed straw pellets, bran pellets, grain slurry, sunflower seeds and shells pellets, rapeseed press cakes). Nominal capacity of the new CFB boiler will be 201 tons of steam per hour. According to the schedule, the unit will be commissioned by the end of 2012.
In May 2010 companies from the TAURON Group that now form TAURON Wytwarzanie (i.e. Południowy Koncern Energetyczny and Elektrownia Stalowa Wola) applied for a subsidy for two investment projects under Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013 Operational Program. Both projects, i.e. construction of a biomass-fired boiler in Jaworzno and installation for electricity generation from RES at Stalowa Wola received the funds in the amount of approx. PLN 40 million. The first subsidy agreement, for the Stalowa Wola project was signed on 29 November 2011.
