Elektrociepłownia Tychy from the TAURON Group signed agreement with Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej (National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management) concerning subsidy for the project of emission reduction by modernization of a heating unit. The modernization consists of adaptation of the boiler to burn only biomass. The subsidy amounts to PLN 20 million.
Reconstruction of a 40 MW CFB coal-fired boiler to a CFB biomass-fired boiler is the first of two stages of the program for capacity restoration at the Tych-based company. It results from the necessity to adjust this source to the new, more stringent emission standards that will be in force since 2016, which in turn will cause that the operation of the existing units will not be possible. The modernization is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2012.
The second stage of capacity reconstruction at EC Tychy includes construction of a 50 MWe / 86 MWt cogeneration unit together with necessary infrastructure. Completion is schedulet for 2016.
